A brief timeline of the history of the Cricket Association of Nebraska

2011

On  February 27thCAN participated in CULTUREFEST 2011, organized by the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s (UNO) Service-Learning Academy, in partnership with the Omaha Public Schools in the Milo Bail Student Center Ballroom on UNO’s campus.


2010


On February 25th, 2010, the founding members decide to formally initiate the process of forming the Cricket Association of Nebraska.


On March 18th, 2010, after a few days of consultation with lawyers, CAN drafts an Article of Incorporation, a Constitution, and a document detailing a 7-step process to legalizing the organization.


On March 25th, 2010, CAN is officially registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and Nebraska Cricket Club and NCC as the registered Trade Names. That day, CAN officially comes into existence on an interim basis (as required by the Secretary of State's office).

On April 22nd, 2010, all the paperwork is officially completed, including:

-- Article of Incorporation for CAN

-- Trade Name: Nebraska Cricket Club

-- Trade Name: NCC


On May 11th, 2010, CAN plays its first official match, as the Nebraska Cricket Club,  in the Heartland Cricket League against the Iowa University Hawkeyes.

On May 11th, 2010, CAN is granted exclusive, first priority access to Freedom Park as the site for a cricket ground by 
the City of Omaha Parks and Recreation Department .

On May 15th, 2010, CAN (NCC) registers its first win in the HCL against the Cedar Rapids Kings.

On May 17th and 19th, 2010, CAN organizes a cricket demonstration (6 classroom sessions in total) at Beveridge Magnet Middle School.

On May 19th, 2010, a concrete cricket pitch is poured and readied for use at Freedom Park, the home field of CAN.

On June 14-17, 21-24th, 2010, CAN organizes two separate sessions of a Junior Summer Cricket Camp at Beveridge Magnet Middle School, under the guidance of Coach Deepali Rokade.

On June 26th, 2010, CAN successfully hosts fundraiser - India Night 2010.

On June 29th, 2010, CAN organizes a cricket demonstration for about 30 kids at Lothrop Magnet Center (Elementary School).

On June 29th, 2010 , CAN organizes a cricket demonstration for about 90 kids at Crestridge Magnet Center (Elementary School).

On July 10th, 2010, CAN hosts inaugural game at Freedom Park, Omaha, NE against the Knights Cricket Club of Des Moines, IA.

On July 17th, 2010, CAN (NCC) defeats the defending champions of the Heartland Cricket League, the Iowa Bulls, to register their first home win at Freedom Park.

On September 12th, 2010, CAN (NCC) avenges the season-opening defeat to the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, winning the Division II Final by just 5 runs and are crowned as the 2010 champions of Division II of the Heartland Cricket League.

On October 15th, 2010, CAN organizes multiple cricket demonstrations for about 60 kids at Lothrop Magnet Center and over 80 kids at King Science and Technology Magnet.

On October 16th, 2010, CAN organizes its Annual General Meeting where the 2011 Board is formally elected, a review of 2010 is presented by the President, and a financial overview of 2010 is provided (available to all members who did not attend the meeting upon request).
